A jury is a group of citizens which hears the testimony in legal disputes and determines
what it believes the truth is.

It is established that William the Conqueror brought the jury to England from Normandy. A system of having witnesses who knew about a matter, and then telling the court to swear under oath. The word “juror,” comes from the Old French jurer which means to swear.
